ACCOUNTABILITY: FAILING THE MARK

Once Members of Parliament are elevated into Cabinet Ministers in my country, they, while taking over the Ministries, disclose to the public of agenda of action (blue print) (in front of media cameras) what they hope achieve while in that position. Yet when they are handing over following reshuffles, demotion and sacking, they never tell the public what they achieved. The media people are happy displaying the same messages to the public without interrogating the outgoing Ministers as to what is they achieved. Instead they are happy carrying on relaying new Minister’s pledges. This makes the whole exercise useless to the recipients given that the new pledges are just hot air or sound byte which are meant to fill the news time slot. The challenge is for the media to pin down the out going what he/she actually achieved. Otherwise the exercise is just a waste of time and new time slot.
